Project Manager, IT consultancy

Two years after completing his master’s degree, Victor Bressen Marthinsson is deeply involved in growing an IT consultancy. The goal is to challenge the big global incumbents, and the ride is exciting.

You work as a project manager for a high-end IT- and business consultancy. What is your remit at the company? 

As a project manager I work closely with our CCO to integrate the companies we have acquired. My main main tasks revolve around creating a unified target operating model as well as enhancing our commercial strategy.

What excites you the most about the role? 

As we are majority-owned by a Danish private equity firm, there’s a strong emphasis on profitability, with ambitious targets to meet.  The environment is fast-paced, dynamic, and constantly provides opportunities to learn. It’s demanding, but I believe that a bit of pressure helps you to perform at your best. Working closely with our CCO has been a great experience and having a direct impact on the business has been hugely rewarding. Being in the early stages of my career, I’m eager to learn and absorb as much as possible, and this is a great place to do so.

How did you end up in IT consulting?

After graduating from the University of St Andrews, I joined Danske Bank in Copenhagen, working in their Markets Front Office. During my time there, I came across emagine Consulting, and when I was offered a role with them in London, I accepted it immediately. I initially started in the solution sales team, but over time transitioned to lead the PMO within the CCO office.

Your whole education was at the Swedish School in Barnes. What is the fondest memory you have from this time? 

Growing up, the Spring Show was the highlight of the year. In hindsight, it was a great experience. It brought the whole school together and you became confident in performing and speaking in front of larger audiences. 

The school’s ethos is to foster a bi-cultural education and outlook on life. Is this something that has been important to you? 

I’m proud to embrace both my Swedish and British identities. Having two cultural backgrounds has greatly enriched my life, shaping my friendships and experiences. 

What do you think is important when choosing a school? 

Academic results are important, but the environment is even more important. And I truly think this is where the Swedish School stands out, in providing a safe environment and a home away from home. The small class sizes, as well as the close relationships you form with your teachers, really allows you to thrive as a student.

Are you still in touch with any of your friends from school? 

I am! This evening I’m meeting my friend Sebastian who I’ve known from the Swedish School since I was six years old. We’ve remained best friends ever since. 

How important do you think higher education is? 

I think it’s very important, but it’s so much more than just the studies. During your time at university, you’ve get the opportunity to get exposed to new ideas, meet new people, and grow as a person. For me, it was also the first time I lived on my own and had to solve problems on my own. University life provided a smoother transition into the real working life I embraced later on.

What are you most proud of so far thinking back at school and working life? 

Looking back on my educational journey and early professional experiences, I’m particularly proud of being accepted into St Andrews and Copenhagen Business School, graduating with top grades, and starting my career at Danske Bank. Looking ahead, achieving our goals at my current job would be a tremendous accomplishment that I would take great pride in.
