Ella Vinell

THE IMAGE PURVEYOR
Creative Coordinator, Music agency

Ella’s passion for music and her creative eye paved the way for a coveted career in visual branding within the music industry. As a creative coordinator, Ella helps artists to connect with their audiences and build their brands. Ella has worked with artists such as Beabadoobee, Wolf Alice, and Lorde. Collectively, these three artists have 39.2 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

The music industry is known to be very difficult to get into. How did you get a foot in the door?

After school I applied for lots of internships, and I was lucky to get one at the fashion brand A.T.P. Atelier where I did a marketing and PR internship for five months. Over time, I have built up contacts and started working as an assistant for stylists, photographers and set designers, working on music videos and advertising campaigns.

Besides internships, what formal education do you have?

Upon graduating from school, I pursued a degree in Fashion Communications and Public Relations at the London College of Fashion. This program provided me with a strong theoretical and practical foundation for a career in the industry.

How did you end up in your current role?

While studying at the London College of Fashion, I was chatting to my course leader about my love for music, and its connection to fashion. To my surprise, she said, ‘’I’ve got the perfect job for you’’ which is how I discovered the role at Inside Out Agency. This was my first job after university, and I consider myself very fortunate.

What do you do as a creative coordinator?

We create creative concepts for musicians, and provide visual image strategy, event production and live styling. Inside Out has over 100 artists on their books, with the most famous names being Lily Allen, Robyn, and Lady Gaga. Since I started, I have worked with Beadoobee, Wolf Alice and Lorde, to name a few.

During my years at the Swedish School,
I discovered a sense of who I am
and what I aspire to do.”

What excites you about your job?

The variety of work is incredible. It might sound cliché, but every day is unique. One day, you might be selecting outfits for an artist’s performance, and the next, you are busy organizing a launch event for a new album.

What drives you?

For me, it is all about building visual narratives that tell an artist’s story. The creativity involved in this process is what drives me.

What is most important when pursuing a career in music and fashion?

Both music and fashion are vast industries, so your experience largely depends on the role you take on. In my role, it’s crucial to have a clear vision and the ability to visualise the desired outcome, whether it’s for an album launch or an artist’s festival outfit.

Is being bi-cultural important to you?

This is incredibly important to me. England and London have significantly shaped my formative years. I often wonder how different my life would have been if I had stayed home, and I’m certain I would have turned out quite differently. During my years at the Swedish School, I discovered a sense of who I am and what I aspire to do. It allowed me to explore aspects of myself that I never had the opportunity to do at home. Today, I feel very comfortable with who I am and what I stand for.

What is the fondest memory you have from the Swedish School?

The close-knit group of friends I formed while away from my family became like a second family to me. Being far from home, we built our own tight bond and supported each other like siblings. (One of Ella’s friends is Young Royals star Felicia Maxime).

Any advice for those considering The Swedish School in London?

Do it! You never know until you try.
