Steeped in history

About Our School

Since its founding in 1907, the Swedish School in London has supported Swedish families, industries, and businesses, serving as an important bridge between Sweden and the UK.

As the only accredited Swedish school in the country, we offer high-quality education from pre-school through sixth form. We welcome both families who live permanently in the United Kingdom and those who come to London for a shorter period.

Our school is regulated by both the Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket) and Ofsted. While we follow the Swedish curriculum, we make full use of our unique location by using London as an extended classroom and placing strong emphasis on the English language.

We take great pride in our small class sizes, dedicated teachers, and warm community spirit. Together, these create an environment where pupils can thrive academically and personally—giving them a strong foundation and a springboard to an international future.

Our History

The story of The Swedish School in London began in 1907, when the first classrooms opened in the Swedish Church on Harcourt Street in Paddington to serve the growing Swedish community in the city. As the school flourished, it eventually outgrew its original home and, in 1976, moved to Barnes—where our students still learn today.

A new chapter began in 1992 with the opening of our sixth form, allowing us to support students through the final stage of their school journey and into the wider world.

Focused on Education and Student Wellbeing — Not Profit

We are a not-for-profit, charitable school with one clear purpose: to provide an outstanding education for our students. The school is registered as a charity in England and Wales and operates as a company limited by guarantee, with no share capital.

Membership of the charity is open to parents and guardians of pupils at the school, and our governors are elected by the members at the Annual General Meeting. As charity trustees, the governors are responsible for the organisation’s strategic direction as well as for its property and funds.
